2008 Harvest is Finished!

While everything looked like it was running behind last years harvest by a couple of weeks, a warm late July through Labor Day really accelerated the harvest, and we were scrambling.  Chardonnay (new to the Rock this year) came in first, and then Merlot and Syrah at exactly the same time – we processed a rare for us “double crush” one weeknight, ending after 11pm.  Cabernet Franc was next, then things cooled down in eastern Washington and we got a bit of a break before the Cabernet Sauvignon was ready the second week of October.  Our last press off was completed in early November, and all of our wine is now resting in barrels and the rather long process of malolactic fermentation is underway.  Our aging barrels are ready to be filled once this process has ended most likely right around or just after the holidays.

We’ve also been tending to the 2007 vintage, topping off barrels and tasting along the way.  Suffice to say that at this point we’re more than pleased with what we taste from the barrel, and feel that across the board we’ll be delivering better wines in this vintage than any previous effort.
